A new feature on the Never Too Old to Lift blog. Each month I will share some of the content they I have come across on the internet that I think you will enjoy too. This might include inspiring videos, educational articles or audio books that I am listening to right now.

I was introduced to this fantastic video this week. Meet the San Diego Splash women’s basketball team. If you’re under 80 years old then you’re too young to play for this team.
Is Heavy Strength Training Safe for Older Adults?
Dr Claire Minshull, who has a PHD in Exercise Science and Rehab, writes a fantastic blog, Get Back to Sport. The blog focuses on the in-depth theory and research around various topics related to strength training.
The blog is primarily aimed at rehab and fitness professionals, however it is a fantastic resource for anyone who is interested in delving deeper into the theory.
This week Claire wrote a very relevant article that I recommend you all go and check out…
Is Heavy Strength Training Safe for Older Adults?
The Art of Resilience
This week I started a new Audiobook, The Art of Resilience by Ross Edgley.
In 2018 Ross Edgley swam 1792 miles around Britain over the course of 157 days. I am only a couple of hours into the audiobook but so far it has linked his preparations for the swim together with the relevant sports science. He also discusses the merits of strength training and how it helps to make you robust and resilient.
If you’re looking for inspiration to get started and strategies to ensure you approach fitness with the best mindset then I highly recommend this book.
Listen to The Art of Resilience for free.
If you aren’t already an Audible member, you can sign up for a Free 30 Day Trial. You’ll get your first credit free of charge, which can be used to purchase any Audiobook. Why not sign up and listen to the Art of Resilience for free. You have nothing to lose and can cancel anytime.

I wrote the article above for Physios Online, a community of physiotherapists (including myself) in the UK who promote the use of virtual consultations or online appointments. In the article I reiterate the importance of maintaining and increasing strength as we age.

These two articles were topics that were taken from a longer post that I wrote here on Never Too Old to Lift. If you found these useful, you will also like 7 Functional Movements: Progressions, Regressions and Modifying Around Pain.
