I have finally moved house and am back down to one job. This means I have the time to dedicate to Never Too Old to Lift again.

I wanted to start off again by clarifying who will benefit from reading and engaging with Never Too Old to Lift.

The simplest answer is that Never Too Old to Lift is aimed at you if you have little or no experience with the weights section of a gym.

This website is designed to get you from point A to point B.

A = Who you are now! You are someone who…

  • wants to start strength training but lacks the confidence and knowledge to start.
  • has always been active but now feel frustrated by how pain and fatigue limit how active you can be.
  • feels you are letting people down due to your loss of physical fitness.
  • is embarrassed by how inactive you have become.

B = Who you will become! You can be someone who can…

  • feel confident stepping into a gym and using weights.
  • who can create and adapt your own workout program around your individual requirements?
  • doesn’t have to think twice about doing all the activities that you love to do.
  • be relied upon to support your friends and family (eg childcare, dog walking etc).
  • keep up with your grandchildren.

Who is Never Too Old to Lift not for?

If you are an experienced powerlifter and are wanting to find out the small subtle changes in your technique to smash your PB (personal best), then this probably isn’t the blog for you.

That’s not to say you wouldn’t get any benefit from reading some of the content. Some of the posts, especially around mindset and goal setting, can help you reevaluate what you want to get out of your training.

How will this blog get you to ‘B’?

The posts in the blog and the videos on my YouTube Channel, along with social media post, will aim to help guide you in the following areas.

  • Explore your reasons for wanting to get stronger.
  • Help you create individual goals.
  • Work out how to prevent your barriers stopping your progress.
  • Teach you the basic science and physiology behind training.
  • Learn to create workout programs.
  • Become confident in adapting programs around pain or ability level.
  • Suggest equipment you can use in your training.
  • Use real-life case studies to inspire you.
  • Show you how to test your progress.

From September I will aim to commit to weekly content on either my blog or youtube channel, always released on a Thursday.

Why did I create Never Too Old to Lift?

I am a physiotherapist, now based in Birmingham in the UK. Much of my job involves working with patients who are experiencing pain. Generally, it is not the pain that brings them in to see me. Instead, it is the frustration of how their pain affects their enjoyment of the activities they participate in.

I love watching my patients discover what they are capable of and when they realise that their body are far more robust and resilient than they gave it credit for.

I created this blog as a way of trying to inspire more of you to start getting stronger, with the hope of making an impact on just a few more peoples lives.

Much of the content I produce is built around common questions and concerns that my patients have discussed with me.
